WHAT THE DATABASE CONTAINS

Each ingredient profile is full of interesting information.

Ingredients are categorised into specific groups determined by how they are used in culinary terms. For example a tomato is a botanical fruit but is classed as vegetable by Cuisitive.

INGREDIENT

Each ingredient includes a common & alternative name in English as well as in Spanish & French.

SCIENTIFIC NAME

Every ingredient is listed under an internationally recognised scientific name/s. This allows cross-referencing with other languages.

GROUP/ORDER/FAMILY

Cuisitive prioritises the family group, order/class of each ingredient allowing consistent categorisation.

DESCRIPTION

We offer concise descriptions that a chef/enthusiast can use to describe an ingredient.

CUISINES

Many ingredients are traditionally associated with a particular cuisine/s. We highlight them.

ORIGIN

Although the origin of a high % of ingredient is disputed or unknown many can be associated to a particular region or country.

FLAVOUR PROFILES

Flavour is essential to every chef or cook. For each ingredient we determine important indicators and characteristics.

A DATABASE
FOR ALL FOOD LOVERS

Our ingredients database is the result of several years of research, cross-referencing and consulting with fellow food professionals and chefs. It is designed for those in the industry that really want to get to know the ingredients they use and also discover new ones they never even knew existed. This year we started to use Airtable which is a spreadsheet-database hybrid. It combines the features of a database and then applied to a spreadsheet. This has allowed us to create an extremely dynamic and smooth database that is easy to understand and use.

For example if you want to filter all ingredients that are fruits, members of the Anacardiaceae family and used in Brazilian cuisine you can do this in seconds.

A virtue of our database is that it is constantly updated in realtime and the user does not have to do anything to see the new information. It is all automatic.
